Bath Bombs are fun, colourful and full of fragrance! They can be used for Aromatherapy, Manicure and Pedicure or just for relaxation
As much they are fun using, Making them is also easy and you can get as much creative as you can be !
Bathbomb basically is the reaction caused when a mixture of a weak acid and a weak base, in contact with water, creates an effervescence.
In general, the most basic formula to make a bath bomb is –
Baking Soda – 2 parts
Citric Acid – 1 part
Binder – Liquid ( Usually water) to bind them.
For liquid, you can also use Witch Hazel or Oils.
Caution – When using oils, the bathroom or bathtub might become slippery. In my coming posts shall write about how to make bath bombs with oil.
This is the most basic recipe for any bath bomb and the above ingredients are necessary. Other additives are to make the bathbombs effective, fun, therapeutic etc.
The key to making a good bath bomb is to add just that much amount of water that it needs to bind citric acid and baking soda without fizzing them off much, or that they end up crumbly and disintegrate.
There are various other add ons you can use to make your bath bomb fun, creative, therapeutic etc.
Fillers –
Eg. – Epsom Salt, Kalin Clay, Cornstarch Powder, Arrowroot clay, Salts, Tapioca Powder etc
Many people like smooth finish bath bombs, however for me, I love these rugged look bath bombs, like a moon crater!
Colourants –
Just like making your soap, you can play around with colours. You can add micas, natural colours and soap colours.
You can even paint your bath bombs with colourants.
Tried painting mandala with micas added to oil.
Caution – you cannot use food grade colours because they are different and they can stain your tubs, your clothes, towels etc.
Fragrances –
Bathbombs are one of the things used in Aromatherapy. You can add essential oils or Blends. When the bathbombs come in contact with water, they will effervescence and release this amazing fragrances of essential oils.
Caution – Essential oils have their own usage rates. Many essential oils also are a big NO for kids and pregnant women or with sensitive skin. Please chose your essential oils carefully. Research on them and then add them to your bath bombs. If there are certain safety measures that needs to be taken for that oil, do mention them in your packaging.
